The challenge

Eighty-four sites, eighty-four different historiesTwo decades of incremental work meant no two equipment rooms were cabled the same way. Fault-finding took a senior engineer and a torch rather than a drawing.
The availability commitment was already soldThe operator had committed a figure to enterprise customers. Every hour of work had to be planned backwards from that number.
Access was the real programme riskPermits, escorts, landlord approval on rooftops and shared sites. On several nodes we had four hours a night, twice a week, and no more.

What we delivered

Structured CablingOS2 fibre and Cat6A to a single build standard across every site, terminated, tested and labelled identically
IT Power SolutionsDC power paths and battery strings audited, replaced where failed, and load tested at every site
Maintenance & Managed ServicesA preventive schedule written for a distributed estate rather than for one building

Worked to TIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801, IEC 62040, ETSI EN 300 019.

The numbers

84sites built to one standard
Sites delivered84
Fibre installed19.4 km, OS2
Copper installed31 km, Cat6A
Ports terminated and certified6,180
Certification pass rate at first test98.6%
Battery strings replaced47 of 84 sites
Autonomy achieved at full load4 hours, load tested per site
Service-affecting events during delivery0
Programme duration14 months, night works

The outcome

Site eighty-four now looks like site one, on paper and in the rack. A fault that used to need a senior engineer on site is diagnosed from the records, and the operator can hand a new contractor a build standard instead of an explanation.

Documentation handed over

  • As-built drawings per site
  • Certification results for all 6,180 ports
  • Battery condition baseline per site
  • Labelling standard
  • Preventive maintenance schedule
